The Westland City Council on Sept. 2, 2025, confirmed Linda Filizetti to a three-year term on the Zoning Board of Appeals, effective upon confirmation and set to expire Sept. 2, 2028.
Councilman Murkowski nominated Filizetti and members of the council voiced support before the roll-call confirmation. Murkowski said Filizetti "has been a resident of our community for for some time" and highlighted her recent involvement in community emergency response and charitable activities. He added the nominee's education would be "a great asset to the zoning board." Pro Tem Sampey and other council members echoed support, describing Filizetti as active at study sessions and budget meetings and saying her background would add diversity to the board.
The council closed nominations and held a roll-call vote that showed Councilwoman Baumann, Councilman Hornbuckle, Councilwoman Rakowski, Councilman Wishart, Pro Tem Sampey and President McDermott voting yes; Councilman Hart was recorded as absent and excused. The motion passed and council members asked Filizetti to stand and be recognized.
Council members noted the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is one of the boards where the council exercises nominating power rather than the administration making a nomination. Members encouraged residents interested in boards and commissions to contact the administration or council about openings.
Filizetti's term will run until Sept. 2, 2028, according to the appointment notice included in the meeting record.
