Western Kansas Career Showcases reports expanded fall lineup, thanks Finney County for start-up support

A representative of Western Kansas Career Showcases updated the commission on an expanded schedule of regional career showcases and thanked Finney County for start-up assistance.
During public comment at the Sept. 2 meeting, Bob Kreitzer, representing Western Kansas Career Showcases, told commissioners the organization had expanded its fall schedule and added regional events focusing on building trades and STEM.
Kreitzer said last year the program held eight showcases and that this year organizers added a building-trades showcase in Garden City tied to construction projects at the county’s EMS/health facility; contractors Hutton Construction, Davis Electric and Tetral Plumbing are participating. Organizers also added three showcases in northwest Kansas (Oakley, WaKeeney and Goodland) and a STEM-focused showcase in cooperation with Garden City Community College aimed at high-school students and community members seeking continuing education.
Kreitzer thanked Finney County for initial financial support that helped launch the program and said staff and volunteers were preparing for a busy fall schedule. The board received the update and had no follow-up action.
