Coffey County approves $2,500 donation to Coffee Health Foundation golf tournament

The Coffey County Board of Commissioners approved a $2,500 donation to the Coffee Health Foundation to sponsor a team at the foundation’s annual golf tournament, scheduled for Sept. 13 at the Burlington Country Club.
Cassie Bailey, representing the Coffee Health Foundation, said the foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) that primarily funds scholarships for students pursuing health-related studies and supports CPR and first-aid training in Coffey County schools. “We have given out over 150 scholarships and over $500,000 since we've been in place,” Bailey said. She described the foundation's scholarship program structure (renewable $1,000 scholarships and other awards) and the tournament sponsorship levels.
Commissioner Peterson moved to donate $2,500 from the county’s general fund community-improvement line item to the foundation; Commissioner McCurry seconded. The motion passed by voice vote. County staff said the donation will include a team registration for the tournament and that staff would be given registration details for county participants.
Commissioners discussed how to select county participants for the team and suggested using the employee wellness program to run a drawing to allocate team slots across departments.
No further financial commitments to the foundation were made at the meeting.
