Jeremy Myers, Geary County public works administrator, told commissioners that crews installed a series of culverts last week and will patch roadway asphalt in the coming weeks.
Myers reported that a bridge on the Katy Bridal project was closed to traffic to allow decking and stringer replacement; the closure is expected to last approximately three weeks with a posted detour. County staff said Marshall will install detour signage and that the work is on schedule to be completed within the estimated period.
Public Works also opened the landfill for a special cleanup on Aug. 23 to assist the city and residents; Jason (last name not specified in the transcript) reported 69 loads of debris from private residents were brought to the site. Myers said the county is discussing whether to host special landfill openings more frequently next year, particularly during the April—October period.
Myers thanked the commission for approving replacement equipment; the Kenworth T880 dump truck purchased through Sourcewell has arrived, is being outfitted with a radio and decals and will be placed in service from Station 1.
Other items included a road-grading response to recent southeast-county rains and ongoing planning for potential twice-monthly landfill openings during peak months. No formal action was required of the commission on the infrastructure updates beyond earlier contract and procurement approvals.
