Josephine County commissioners direct staff to proceed with tasks 1 and 2 to prepare Dollar Mountain property for sale

The Josephine County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to direct staff to complete both task 1 and task 2 on county-owned property known as Dollar Mountain and to proceed toward selling the parcel.
Commissioner Barnett moved to ‘‘do steps 1 and 2 together and proceed as immediately as we can to basically sell this property.’’ The motion was seconded; a roll call recorded Commissioners Smith, Barnett and Black voting yes and the motion carried 3–0.
Why it matters: staff described the property discussion as sensitive and cautioned commissioners against disclosing details in open session. Commissioners said neighborhood context and surrounding property values would strongly influence sale value and requested careful investigation before setting a sale price or auction date.
Director Streeter, who advised the board, said task 1 is a precursor to task 2 and accounts for roughly 80% of the expense; he recommended completing both tasks together to produce a full report. Commissioner Barnett emphasized the need to ‘‘find a value on this property that will move it out of the ownership of the county.’’
The board also agreed to retain discretion on auction timing; staff said a final decision on whether to take the property to auction can be made up to the day of the auction and that staff will provide a time frame for completion.
Next steps: staff will carry out tasks 1 and 2 and report back with valuation and sale logistics. The board authorized the work and will revisit auction timing and final sale mechanics when staff returns with a report.
