Planning commission grants continuance for Vaughn Lane project; applicant to deliver title evidence by Sept. 25

The Cranston City Planning Commission voted to continue the master-plan application for the Vaughn Lane development to Oct. 7 and set firm submission and decision deadlines after a lengthy public exchange between neighbors and the applicant.

Attorney Tanesa Azar, representing the applicant, asked for a one-month continuance to allow a title attorney to finish a search of road titles and right-of-way documents. Neighbors and their counsel urged the commission to deny further continuances, saying the developer had known about access issues for months and had delayed gathering information until recently.

Neighbor attorney Steven Seippel told the commission the public had repeatedly flagged privately owned structures along Bond Lane and Vaughn Lane that could be affected by any required widening. "We are in here every month hearing their excuses for why they don't have things done that should have been done before they filed their application," he said.

Resident Jessica Salter described repeated missed commitments and a long timeline: "This project has been granted 3 continuances and 1 extension. There can be no argument that the developer has not had enough time to address the issues that you have consistently asked them to address." She asked that the commission deny another extension.
