Staff for the Angola Historic Preservation Commission announced plans for a Haunted History cemetery tour at Circle Hill Cemetery and asked commission members to volunteer for ticketing, parking and docent duties on Oct. 24–25.
The event is a joint project with Angola Main Street, Trine University and volunteer coordinator Kathy Aldridge. Staff said ticket sales are already underway through Angola Main Street and that more than 120 people had shown interest soon after the event was posted. The commission was asked to staff a volunteer roster and to sign up for either the Friday or Saturday sessions.
Staff described the Friday evening event (Oct. 24) as family‑oriented with lighter content and a 5 p.m.–7 p.m. window; Saturday (Oct. 25) will be marketed to teens and adults and runs roughly 6 p.m.–8 p.m. Organizers plan 30‑minute group starts and a walking tour that takes approximately one hour to complete. Staff said accommodations can be arranged for visitors with limited mobility and that they intend to stagger volunteers so each walking group has a docent and a storyteller at stations around the cemetery.
Commission members discussed logistics such as the timing of downtown events that could affect staging, lighting and dumpster placement. Staff said they will circulate a volunteer sign‑up email, list specific props and supplies requested (battery‑operated lanterns and low‑power candles), and coordinate with Angola Main Street about possible event funding or a food‑truck presence from a local bank partner.
Staff asked commissioners to consider acting as docents or storytellers; organizers said each storyteller would be responsible for one short story and leading visitors to the next station. The commission also discussed contacting the local historical society to invite its participation and agreed staff would follow up.
The commission noted there will be no regular HPC meeting on Sept. 17 because of a downtown cruise‑in event; the next HPC meeting is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m.
