The Moreno Valley City Council on Sept. 2 presented a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as National Preparedness Month and urged residents to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies.
The proclamation, presented to Fire Chief Jesse Park and Diana Rocket, manager of the Office of Emergency Management and Volunteer Services, highlights federal guidance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and local resources for residents.
City officials said preparedness can begin with basic actions such as signing up for the city's Alert Mobile notification service, making a family emergency plan and assembling a small supply kit. The proclamation directs residents to ready.gov for preparedness guidance and to the city's emergency-management web resources for local information.
"Start small. Don't try to do it all at once. Just remember, make a kit, have a plan, and stay informed," Diana Rocket told the council as she accepted the proclamation alongside Fire Chief Jesse Park.
Chief Park thanked the council and staff for their support of emergency-preparedness programming and said the office will continue offering community courses, including CERT and all-hazards classes in English and Spanish.
The council's proclamation also promoted the city’s Alert Mobile service, described in the presentation as a free service that sends phone, text or email updates before, during and after emergencies, and encouraged residents to sign up.
The special-presentation segment concluded with the council returning to the regular meeting agenda at 6 p.m.
