Sept. 2, 2025 — Carla Cisneros, a Victorville resident, urged the City Council during the public comment period to address what she described as widespread vandalism and break-ins of community mailboxes across the city.
Cisneros said the postmaster at the Victorville post office on Green Tree told her nearly the entire city has been affected. She told the council the break-ins put residents at risk of mail theft, financial fraud and identity theft and requested increased patrols by the Victorville Police Department in neighborhoods where cluster mailboxes are located. She also asked the city to work with the Postal Service to install stronger locking mailboxes if patrols are not a viable ongoing solution.
Cisneros said it is “unreasonable” for residents to be forced to pay for PO boxes when community mailboxes are intended to be a secure public service and asked for immediate action to prevent further harm. No formal council action was taken during public comment; council members did not engage in a dialogue during the comment period beyond receiving the statement.
Ending: The council did not announce immediate operational changes at the meeting; staff or police department follow-up would be required for patrol changes or joint work with the U.S. Postal Service.
