Bonner County approves phase 2 design agreement for Spirit Lake Curves safety project

Bonner County commissioners approved a phase 2 professional services agreement with JUB Engineers for the Spirit Lake Curves safety project, staff said.
The work will advance preliminary designs to final plans, specifications and an engineer's estimate needed to bid construction. The project aims to realign an especially sharp curve, install chevrons, and add guardrail at several locations on Spirit Lake Cut Off Road where numerous accidents — including fatal crashes — have occurred.
Staff noted the county previously completed phase 1 and has applied for safety grant money. The phase 2 agreement for $102,781 will be paid by the county up front and reimbursed at 92.66% by ITD per grant terms.
A motion to approve Professional Services Agreement number 97349 with JUB Engineers for final design of the Spirit Lake Curves Safety Project passed by roll call. Members of the public expressed support, calling the curves hazardous.
