Kootenai County amends juvenile detention food-service agreement; per-meal price rises 5%

Lauren Gibson of the juvenile detention program told the board the county seeks approval of Amendment No. 2 to the food-service agreement with Summit Food Service LLC for fiscal year 2026. Gibson said the cost per meal will increase 5%, from $3.41 to $3.58, and that the increase was included in the budget.
Gibson also said the county pays only for dinner under the agreement because breakfast and lunch are covered through the school meal program (MSLP). The board moved to approve the amendment; the motion was seconded and passed with all commissioners present voting aye.
Implementation: Juvenile detention staff will proceed with the amended contract for fiscal year 2026 and charge the county for dinner meals per the updated per‑meal rate. The contract was presented as reviewed by legal.
