Board committees approve July Head Start expenditures, prospective hires and out-of-state travel

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — During committee sessions at the Sept. 2 meeting, the board’s academics and innovation committee approved Head Start reports and prospective hires, and the finance and human resources committee approved out-of-state travel requests with one exclusion.
Kathy Littleton, chairing the academics and innovation committee, called the committee to order and presented a Head Start budget expenditure report for July 2025, the Head Start credit report for July 2025 and prospective new hires. The committee voted 3–0 to approve the Head Start items.
Later, at the finance and human resources committee meeting, Adam Swearingen presented out-of-state travel requests. The committee approved out-of-state travel as presented but excluded line item 6 and noted the amount for the excluded line item as $2,414.74 in the motion. That motion passed 2–0.
Both committee votes were recorded as committee approvals; each committee then moved to adjourn. No additional committee-level amendments to the Head Start reports or travel requests were recorded in the public transcript.
