SAN LEANDRO, Calif. ' The San Leandro City Council received a status update on the city's Climate Action Plan (CAP) on Sept. 2 as staff described recent programs in energy, waste reduction, transportation and shoreline resilience.
Kimberly Anderson, the city's sustainability analyst in the new Environmental Services Division, said the division now houses sustainability, solid-waste, and stormwater programs and that staff will occupy retrofitted office space at the South Branch Library. "A climate action plan provides a strategic roadmap to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, build resilience and promote equity," Anderson told council members.
Key updates and programs highlighted by staff:
- Electricity: After the 2021 CAP adoption, the city defaulted accounts to AVA Community Energy's 100% renewable option for residents and businesses; account holders may change their selection. AVA also plans a Solar Discount Program for income-eligible customers in April 2026 and launched an e-bike incentive program in July…
