Withdrawal study committee sets timeline for Francistown vote; Temple rescinds withdrawal petition

The Contoocook Valley School District's withdrawal study committee reported on progress and set a timeline for decisions on town withdrawal petitions.
Curtis (committee representative) told the board the committee reviewed financial analyses and outstanding financial information needed to make determinations on petitions. The committee scheduled a presentation by the Francistown School Committee for the Sept. 11 meeting and penciled in Thursday, Oct. 2 as the date the committee will vote on Francistown's withdrawal petition.
Committee members also reported that Temple held a special town meeting in early August and voted to rescind its petition to study withdrawal from the district. Given that outcome, the committee will still bring Temple's matter to a vote at the committee's Sept. 11 meeting to record the status. The committee noted it found no statutory process or exemption that would allow it to disband without concluding its work by taking a vote to recommend, not recommend, or request more time.
The committee said it will continue to gather outstanding financial and educational analyses, and will consider the loss of board representation for withdrawing towns and the limitations of negotiated tuition agreements in addressing representation concerns. The committee aims to conclude proceedings in October and will report back to the full board following the scheduled votes.
