Superintendent highlights enrollment growth, new hires and school successes

During the September 2025 meeting, the Millington Municipal Schools Director of Schools reported on the district's start to the 2025–26 school year, new personnel, school recognitions and academic and extracurricular highlights.

The director welcomed a roster of recent hires and returning staff across the district, and introduced the elected student board representative, Marissa Briggs, who attended her first regular meeting. He also reported several school-by-school updates delivered by building leaders.

Millington Early Learning Academy (MILA) held a ribbon-cutting on Aug. 2 and opened the first week of classes Aug. 18; the school plans a grandparents picnic on Sept. 12 and set a monthly student-of-the-month process. At Millington Primary School (MPS), staff reported a "We are family" theme, several family engagement events and that kindergarten enrollment exceeded 200 students. Middle School (MIS) introduced a house system to create smaller communities within the school and received a $2,500 grant for robotics for the STEM club. Millington Central reported the 2024–25 graduating class included 208 seniors and said graduation rate rose to 93.1% (up from 85.9% four years prior); chronic absenteeism decreased to 15.5% (from 25% four years ago). Millington Central also reported increased industry credentials (from 388 to 428) and expanded dual-enrollment and CTE opportunities.

The superintendent told the board districtwide enrollment had increased "well over" previous counts and cited a current figure of approximately 2,650 students. He also reminded teachers about Millington Education Foundation grant deadlines (Sept. 15) and noted upcoming community events including Goat Days and the Lions Club pancake breakfast.

No board action was taken on the superintendent's report; it was presented for information and to recognize staff, students and community partners.
