Leominster school committee candidate urges investment to fix aging school buildings

Leominster school committee candidate Caleb Weldon used his public comment time to call for the district to invest in long-term repairs to school facilities, citing a persistent leaking roof at Leominster High School and the planned replacement of Fallbrook.
Weldon said his experience as a recent graduate of Leominster Public Schools gives him a perspective on building conditions and maintenance priorities. "You may save money for one year, but then it leads to a poor learning environment," he said.
Weldon, a 2017 graduate of Leominster High School who said he grew up in Leominster and has worked as a mechanical engineer since 2021, told the committee he is the youngest candidate in the race and the only one who recently attended the district. He said that perspective would inform his push for facility spending that lasts. "I want to be a voice on the committee calling for us to spend the money needed to not cut corners because the school will be here in 20 years," Weldon said.
Weldon also listed transportation and support for teachers among his priorities and emphasized prioritizing "education above all else." He noted his mother works at Johnny Absolute Elementary and said those family and local ties shape his priorities.
He closed by asking for voters' support in November.
