Facilities update: boilers replaced, locker-room cleaning and auditorium armrests scheduled

District facilities staff told the Regional School Committee Nov. 28 that two hot-water boilers had been replaced (one over Thanksgiving and one with an emergency transfer approved by the town finance committee), that a first cleaning of the boys’ locker room was completed with a second pass planned, and that a repair part for cold showers in the girls’ locker room has been ordered and expected to be installed within days.

The facilities director said the replacement boilers have long exceeded typical life expectancy and that lead time for one vendor’s replacement is about four weeks; staff said the new work is planned for the Christmas break when possible. Auditorium armrest pieces have been ordered and will be installed before the next scheduled event.

Facilities staff also reported the district’s oil contract pricing was included in the meeting packet and that technology procurement for AES (Chromebooks, warranties and classroom tubs) had been vetted with technology staff. Committee members asked about longevity expectations for the new boilers; staff said hot-water boilers typically have a 20–25 year lifecycle and noted the district’s units were well beyond that range.

Facilities staff asked the committee to note that the Friends of Lakeville (FLIP) organization is considering collapsing remaining funds and making a single donation to the district (the administration said an amount close to $7,000 was discussed) and that the district would propose recommended priorities for use of any incoming FLIP funds.
