Utilities staff demonstrate new CCTV truck used to inspect Post Falls sewer system

Bornpool said the city’s collection system includes about 4,200 manholes, 29 lift stations, roughly 194 miles of gravity sewer and 26 miles of force main. The system moves an average of about 2.8 million gallons per day to the water-reclamation facility. The CCTV unit allows staff to identify problems earlier, confirm service connections, perform accurate locates and monitor industrial pretreatment compliance without sending crews into confined spaces.
Examples shown to council included imagery of newly constructed PVC sewer line, residential blockages caused by so-called "flushable" products, a root ball in a sewer pipe, and rock/obstructions discovered in another segment. Bornpool said the truck and tractor have already assisted the city in targeting specific repairs and in identifying the source of discolored deposits upstream of a service connection, helping operations act before problems surface.
Schedule and equipment - The camera tractor was purchased in 2024 as part of investments in collection-system operations; the truck has an operator workspace, deployment area for the tractor and equipment for field maintenance. - Bornpool told council that use of the CCTV reduces the need to excavate long sections of pipe because crews can pinpoint problem locations.
