The Bettendorf City Council on Sept. 2 unanimously approved a resolution to proceed with resurfacing the Fays Field parking lot, adopted a zoning map amendment at its third and final reading and passed several first readings and consent items.
Resolution to resurface Fays Field parking lot: Council member Norman Peters moved approval of a resolution approving plan specifications and the form of contract for the Fays Field parking lot resurfacing project; the motion passed on a roll‑call vote with all council members recorded as yes. Michelle (city clerk) read the roll call: Sechsler Aye; Baden Aye; Palczynski Aye; Adamson Aye; Jaeger Aye; Brown Aye; Naumann Aye.
Ordinances and readings: The council unanimously passed the first reading of an ordinance adding a no‑parking zone on Rainforest Drive; Council member Brown presented the ordinance. Council member Baden presented and won first reading approval for an ordinance adding a yield intersection at Blackberry Lane and Lakeview Court. Council member Palczynski presented the third and final reading and the council unanimously adopted an ordinance amending the Bettendorf zoning map for 5680 North Street (Lot 5, Bailey's First Addition) from R‑2 to R‑1 single‑family residential.
Consent agenda and related items: The council unanimously adopted the consent agenda, which included a proposed three‑year consolidated hardware and software support contract for the city's network (marketed as Cisco Smart Net support and maintenance) and a supplemental wind and hail insurance purchase.
IT support contract: Finance Director Jason Chet introduced the proposed IT support arrangement and said Monty (the vendor representative) and OneNeck are assisting with the city network rearchitecture. Monty told council that the three‑year Cisco support and maintenance contract consolidates hardware and software maintenance into a single agreement, provides next‑business‑day replacement for failed hardware (with an optional faster service for extra cost) and includes software updates for security vulnerabilities. Monty said the contract covers the network infrastructure purchased during the city's recent rearchitecture and that the three‑year agreement would be paid up front through OneNeck.
Supplemental hail/wind insurance: Council discussed a resolution to purchase supplemental coverage that would lower the city's current maximum deductible under its pool program (ICAP) from $350,000 to a $100,000 cap for a portion of covered losses. Council members confirmed the supplemental policy would provide $250,000 of coverage at a cost of $26,000.
Votes and next steps: All motions and readings noted above were unanimous on the record. The city will proceed with contract procurement steps where required and staff will return to council with any items requiring award or authorization. The meeting closed with an unanimous motion to adjourn.
