The Lamar City Council reviewed plans and specifications for demolition of the Centennial Building at 1140 Third Avenue Southeast and directed staff to proceed with the public‑hearing process.
Eocene Environmental Group prepared the plans and specifications presented to the council. The agenda lists a proposed schedule with a public hearing on Sept. 16, 2025; a bid opening and possible award dates in October 2025; and an estimated completion date of Dec. 12, 2025. Administration told the council the demolition cost estimate is $247,300 and said demolition costs are eligible for TIF (tax‑increment financing) reimbursement if the site is included in an eligible project area.
Council discussed next steps for the site after demolition. Staff said the immediate plan is to grade the cleared site and that the site could be seeded or otherwise stabilized in the spring; council members also discussed possible future uses including parking or housing but did not make a decision to sell or redevelop the property at the Sept. 2 meeting.
The council directed staff to proceed with the public hearing and associated procurement steps; no contract award was made at the Sept. 2 meeting.
