The Lamar City Council on Sept. 2 granted a 10‑foot utility easement to MidAmerican to allow relocation of electric infrastructure for well No. 15.
City staff explained that the north right‑of‑way on County Road C‑38 contains multiple existing utilities and elevation changes that present installation challenges. MidAmerican requested the easement to reduce installation costs the city otherwise would pay. Staff said the requested 10‑foot easement provides a clearer path for electric service and should not inhibit future industrial growth because it would be within the front yard setback and still allow future development over the easement.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Administration recommended approval and the council adopted Resolution No. 25‑41 granting the easement. A roll‑call vote recorded the measure as carried.
City staff described the easement as a cost‑saving measure that reduces installation complexity for MidAmerican and lowers the expense the city would otherwise incur. The council did not attach conditions to the easement at the Sept. 2 meeting.
