Thierhoff described his background to the commission: born and raised locally, a real estate appraiser since 1992, recent manager of the Riverview Cemetery Association, living and working on a family farm in Stringtown, with four children and five grandchildren. “I’m excited. I’m excited,” Thierhoff said during his introduction.
Commissioners explained the September start date is tied to the assessor’s statutory reassessment responsibilities. One commissioner noted assessors in odd-numbered years must prepare values that are effective Jan. 1 and typically remain in office to defend those values; bringing a new assessor on Sept. 1 helps ensure continuity through the reassessment period. The transcript indicates Thierhoff previously took his oath in December, and county leaders welcomed him to his office responsibilities.
