St. Francois County sheriff reports drop in calls, inmate counts and recent K-9 drug/firearm seizures

In a department report to the St. Francois County Commission, the sheriff (identified in the meeting by first name Jeff) said overall calls for service decreased by about 41 during the most recent reporting period and provided current jail-population figures.

"Calls for service were down about 41 over the last recording period," Sheriff Jeff said. He reported the county’s most recent weekly calls-for-service figure at 385 (down from 426 for the prior two-week period) and an annual total of 14,073 calls for the year to date.

The sheriff gave an inmate-population update and a brief K-9 unit report. He said the weekly average inmate population stands at 149 (126 males and 23 females) and that the jail held 138 inmates as of the morning of the meeting.

Sheriff Jeff highlighted recent K-9 activity that led to significant seizures. He said deputies were involved in a traffic stop that yielded "a large amount of methamphetamine" and separately that Missouri State Highway Patrol requested K-9 assistance after a pursuit; the sheriff said deputies recovered a firearm and "a large amount of fentanyl." The sheriff said more details would be provided later.
