Resident says late‑night nightclub noise on Highway 471 rattles neighborhood, cites underage drinking concerns

A Brandon resident told Rankin County supervisors on Sept. 2 that late‑night noise from a restaurant‑turned‑nightclub on or near Highway 471 has become a persistent neighborhood problem and that neighbors fear underage drinking and safety risks.
Jack Torrance, who gave his address as 100 Langford Drive, told the board the venue has ‘‘turned into, like in better terms, a nightclub’’ and said the disturbance affects a wide area up and down his road. He said a neighbor, Beau Cox, used instrumentation and recorded noise levels ‘‘between 96 decibels and a 118 decibels’’ as measured from roughly an eighth to a quarter mile away and that sound had been observed as late as 3:40 a.m.
‘‘It rattles the windows of my house,’’ Torrance said. He said he has contacted Sheriff Bailey and the City of Flowood and urged more enforcement over holiday weekends; he also said attendees appear underage and that there has been at least one ABC suspension. Torrance said the late‑night activity ‘‘is really a huge annoyance’’ and expressed concern for intoxicated drivers and children leaving the venue.
County officials acknowledged the complaint. Staff members and supervisors discussed whether a county noise ordinance applied and encouraged the resident to work with law enforcement and municipal authorities where appropriate. No formal enforcement action was recorded at the meeting; supervisors said they would take what steps are within county jurisdiction.
The complaint was presented during the board’s public‑comment period and did not immediately result in a formal agenda action. Residents with ongoing noise or public‑safety concerns should document incidents with timestamps and, where possible, measurements and report them to local law enforcement and to county staff for follow‑up.
