Board removes Planning and Zoning Commissioner Albert Young for missed meetings

The Cochise County Board of Supervisors removed Commissioner Albert Young from the county Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 2 after a staff notice that Young missed five regular commission meetings in the past 12 months.
Miss McLaughlin, presenting on behalf of Development Services and the Planning and Zoning Commission, told the board that the commission's bylaws state that "missing more than 3 regular meetings in a 12 month period constitute neglected duty," and that Commissioner Young had missed five. She said the commission provided proper notice to Young on Aug. 15 and described the item as a hearing (not a public hearing) in which Young could appear and respond; Young was not present at the board meeting.
A motion to remove Commissioner Young from the Planning and Zoning Commission passed 3–0. Following the vote the board directed county staff to proceed with the vacancy process consistent with county procedures.
Miss McLaughlin told the board the action is intended to "ensure the integrity and accountability of the body moving forward." One supervisor noted that consistent, in-person participation is important for commission members who evaluate projects affecting neighborhoods and development.
No additional appeals or timelines were discussed on the record; the board passed the motion during the regular meeting and staff confirmed the vacancy process would follow existing procedures.
