The Harrisonburg City School Board voted unanimously Sept. 2 to permit staff to carry forward funds from fiscal year 2025 to fiscal year 2026 for goods and services contracted in June but delivered or completed in the new fiscal year.
Finance staff member Mr. Kerwin explained the request, saying it is customary this time of year to ask that contracted goods or incomplete services be transferred into the new fiscal year so purchase orders and payments can be completed. "These are goods and services that were contracted in June, and the goods didn't arrive or the service is not fully provided until this fiscal year," Kerwin said.
Board members moved and seconded the request and voted to approve it unanimously. The board did not identify a dollar amount during the discussion; staff said the request covers multiple purchase orders that were active at the end of FY25 and need to be carried forward into FY26.
Staff will complete the supplemental appropriation paperwork and post any required public notices, as customary for year-end carryovers.
