The proclamation described Canine Companions as “a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships free of charge.” It noted the role of service dogs in providing greater independence through training and follow-up services.
The text of the proclamation asks the community to recognize the “joyful transformative power” of service-dog partnerships and to support inclusion and safe access for handlers.
