Olathe adopts Safety Action Plan; council adds Santa Fe/I‑35 interchange to project map

The Olathe City Council on Sept. 2 adopted resolution 25‑10‑78 approving the City of Olathe Safety Action Plan, a transportation safety study the city completed using crash data through 2022 and that identifies priorities for roadway safety improvements.
Staff updates and council discussion
City Engineer Nate Baldwin and staff told the council they added a map and text to show completed projects and projects planned for 2026–2030 so the plan reflects recent work and commitments. Baldwin said the Santa Fe and I‑35 interchange improvement — not shown in the packet map — has been added to the plan and will be included in the adopted document. Council Member Felter asked whether stakeholders who participated in the plan review had seen the updated material; staff said stakeholders had reviewed the plan and that the final plan will be posted on the city website and presented to stakeholder groups upon request.
The council voted 7‑0 to adopt the plan. Council members said the plan will help prioritize where transportation and safety tax dollars should be invested in coming years.
