The council approved ordinance 25-029, an application for a bridal-club (private-club) permit for SHJ Concepts Inc., doing business as Bridge Street Brewery, after two audience speakers addressed the issue. James Owen Hynes, 508 Ridgecrest, testified in opposition and said the proposed location is near one of the few overpasses across the railroad and near a bridge: "We don't need to put a liquor establishment that's going to be causing problems at one of the few that we have," Hynes said. Jason Willard, speaking on behalf of SHJ Concepts, described the applicant's organizational structure and charitable plans and asked the council for a favorable vote. "It's an application for a microbrewery restaurant, that's also a private club," Willard said, and he noted the nonprofit has active membership and local operators involved with restaurant experience.
Consent and committee items: Council moved to remove resolution 25-109 from the consent agenda and then voted to table it indefinitely because the property is under new ownership, per motions recorded on the docket. Several other ordinances (25-030 and 25-031) were advanced to second reading; rezoning ordinance 25-032 was approved to proceed to third reading.
