Lake Cavanaugh resident urges Skagit County to limit heavy-truck access as logging activity strains roads

Lorita Humboldt (also identified as "Tweedy") of Lake Cavanaugh told Skagit County commissioners on Sept. 2, 2025 that recent forestry harvesting on the North Shore is resulting in heavy logging-truck traffic on South Shore, Deer Creek and Oso Road, producing deterioration and closures of local roads.
"South Shore is our only means of transportation; shouldn't there be weight limits implemented as South Shore is becoming more fragile due to extra use, particularly by the heavy logging trucks?" Humboldt asked. She reported a 79-acre harvest on the north shore and said residents have already seen deterioration and the possible closure of North Shore.
No county action was announced at the meeting. Humboldt asked the commissioners to consider weight limits or other measures to protect the road network used by Lake Cavanaugh residents.
Commissioners did not take immediate action during public comment; the county typically routes these concerns to Public Works staff for evaluation and potential temporary or permanent traffic restrictions, permitting conditions, or maintenance responses.
