County to reallocate $800,000 in grant funds to study 30th Street corridor feasibility

The Department of Transportation told the committee it seeks an administrative transfer of $800,000 in grant funds originally associated with an Oakleaf Trail network study to a newly created Thirtieth Street corridor rails-with-trails feasibility study.
DOT staff said the funds were awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and that moving the award from Milwaukee County Parks to Milwaukee County DOT will improve project management and grant-tracking. The proposed study would examine a 6.7-mile shared bicycle-pedestrian trail on a private railroad corridor on the county’s northwest side, extending roughly from American Family Field toward Havenwoods State Forest. Staff estimated the study’s completion in 2027.
The item was informational to the committee and was referred to the Committee on Finance for action on the administrative fund transfer.
