Commissioners postpone rezoning, accept zoning-board appeal and note annexation withdrawal
Summary
At the Sept. 2 meeting the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners allowed withdrawal of a pending annexation application after the property sought city annexation, postponed a rezoning/variance case to Oct. 21, and voted to accept an appeal of a zoning board of appeals denial and schedule a hearing for Oct. 21.

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 2 addressed several planning and zoning items: one application was withdrawn after the applicant pursued annexation with the City of Woodstock, a rezoning and variance request was postponed to Oct. 21, and the board voted to accept an appeal of a zoning-board-of-appeals denial and schedule that appeal for Oct. 21.
Staff said the Park Place Developers case (David Floyd) withdrew its county application after obtaining annexation and rezoning approval from the City of Woodstock; staff said they had coordinated with the city to adjust the county’s growth boundary so it made sense for the entire subdivision to be inside the city. No board action was required for that withdrawal.
Case number 205-823 (Fletcher K. Law for Phyllis Roberts) involves property on Highway 92 with an existing boat dealership zoned general commercial; the applicant had requested three variances and a rezoning but the planning commission recommended denial. The applicant requested postponement to present updated proposal materials. Commissioner Ragsdale moved to postpone action on that case to the Oct. 21 meeting; the motion carried unanimously.
The board also considered an appeal of a split (2–2) zoning-board-of-appeals vote in case number 205-846, filed by Adam Westerby. The board voted to accept the appeal and schedule a hearing for Oct. 21 so the matter can be fully heard with required public notice.
Ending: All three items will return to the board on Oct. 21 either as a hearing (appeal and the postponed rezoning case) or will remain withdrawn where the case moved to a municipal annexation.
