The Veterans Community Commission announced at its Aug. 27 meeting that it will host a senior resource fair on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at the Veterans and Community Resource Center.
Walter (staff) and Marcus Goodwin — a community volunteer who said he has helped organize partners — told commissioners that more than a dozen community partners have committed to participate, including representatives from Nevada Medicaid to help with applications, vision-screening clinicians, insurance brokers focused on veterans and Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. Organizers said they aim to provide wraparound services for seniors and veterans and to expand the event to a weekend date in future years to increase attendance.
Several commissioners raised questions about whether the commission had formally approved the event earlier and urged clearer communication between meetings because the commission meets quarterly. Staff said the item had been discussed previously and that, because of the commission's quarterly schedule, staff and volunteers moved forward to secure partners and schedule the event. No formal vote was taken at the Aug. 27 meeting; the announcement served as an operational update and a call for commission support.
