Jimmy Vega was elected chair and Philip Allen was elected vice chair of the North Las Vegas Veterans Community Commission during the commission’s regular meeting on Aug. 27, 2025. The commission also voted to approve the meeting agenda and to accept the consent minutes from May 28, 2025.
The votes were taken during the meeting after nominations. Dan Kamanao nominated Jimmy Vega for chair; a second was recorded and the commission proceeded to a voice vote, which the chair characterized as unanimous. A nomination was made for Philip Allen for vice chair and that motion also passed by voice vote. The commission then approved the meeting agenda as presented and approved the May 28 consent minutes; both motions passed by voice vote.
The new leadership will preside over upcoming commission items including a planned senior resource fair, veterans services staffing updates and community outreach events discussed later in the meeting. No contested ballots or roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript; the minutes record the outcomes as passed.
The commission opened and closed two public forums as required by its procedures and confirmed compliance with the open meeting law at the start of the meeting.
