Glenn Heights approves employee insurance renewals and authorizes trust to pay obligations

The Glenn Heights City Council and the Lehi Heights Employee Benefits Trust board approved recommended renewals for employee group insurance and a resolution authorizing trust payments, voting unanimously.
Human resources director Janice Porter Braithwaite presented the trust's recommended carriers for the upcoming plan year, saying, “those recommendations are for medical, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, and for dental, basic life, short and long term disability, vision, and voluntary life, MetLife, as the new carrier.” The council and trust approved the recommended plans and related administrative actions in separate motions that passed 6‑0.
The council later approved Resolution R‑26‑25, which authorizes the Lehi Heights Employee Benefits Trust to pay obligations arising from the insurance contracts the trust awards and permits transfers between funds during fiscal year 2025–26 to fund those obligations. The resolution passed on a roll call in which Councilmembers Garrett, Bruton, Hale, Lightfoot, Mayor Pro Tem Benford and Mayor Sonya A. Brown voted “aye.”
Braithwaite told the council the recommendations had been presented previously and invited further questions, but none were raised during the meeting. The trust board recessed and reconvened as part of the combined meeting before taking the approvals.
The actions complete the trust's vendor selections for core employee coverages and authorize the accounting steps needed to fund the contracts during next fiscal year.
