Kaufman County commissioners approve routine minutes, donations, schedules and claims

Kaufman County Commissioners Court on Sept. 2 approved routine administrative items including meeting minutes, two small donations to the sheriff's office, the county—s 2026 holiday and meeting schedules, the 2026 sheriff and constable fee schedule, several line-item budget transfers and $4,028,746.30 in claims and payroll.
The court unanimously approved the minutes of its Aug. 26 regular meeting and Aug. 20 special meeting after a motion and second from the bench. The approvals were handled on voice votes with no roll-call tallies recorded.
Sheriff Jeff Beavers asked the court to accept two donations for the sheriff—s office. Beavers said a K-9 kennel removed from a 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe that is now surplus could be donated to a canine-training partner near San Antonio instead of remaining in county storage. He also presented a live trap donated by Tractor Supply with a listed value of $125 to support animal-trapping needs. Both donations were accepted by voice vote.
The court also approved the county—s official list of 26 holidays for 2026 and adopted the commission—s regular 2026 meeting schedule, continuing weekly Tuesday meetings at 9 a.m. The court noted that at some point next year meetings will move across the street to the old courthouse; the county will notify the public when the new location date is finalized.
A discussion of the proposed 2026 sheriff and constable fee schedule preceded approval. "We compared everything and we're pretty well on task to everybody around us," said a presenter speaking for the sheriff's office, adding that the county's fees were not "outrageous" compared with surrounding jurisdictions. The court approved the fee schedule by voice vote.
County staff presented previously circulated line-item transfers and budget amendments and asked the court to approve them; the court voted in favor. County staff then presented claims for payment, including accounts payable and jury checks totaling $1,838,137.09 and payroll of $2,190,609.21, for a combined total of $4,028,746.30. A county staff member summarized the totals to the court before the court approved payment by voice vote.
The meeting concluded after routine business and a motion to adjourn was carried by voice vote.
Why this matters: These approvals cleared routine administrative business and funding obligations for county operations and law enforcement support heading into the fall and set the official calendar and meeting schedule for 2026.
