Tammy Smith, parks director for the Town of Speedway, announced that the town will hold a Public Safety and Service Community Day at Leonard Park on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The event will let residents meet Speedway police and fire personnel, see town vehicles and equipment up close, and take part in family-oriented activities, Smith said. "Come out to Leonard Park on Thursday, September 11, from 5PM to 7PM. Come out for some community fun and engage with departments that work around our town, the Speedway fire department, the Speedway police department, along with other departments that service the community," she said.
Smith said the Speedway Police Department will be grilling hot dogs and the Speedway Fire Department will provide water and chips. Town leaders will serve ice cream, and the Speedway Public Library will sponsor a foam cannon for children. Smith added that several local groups and businesses will be on hand "to educate you on what they have to offer the community." She invited families to "bring your kiddos out, prepare to have fun in some bubbly foam."
Organizers did not specify whether registration is required, whether there will be formal presentations, or whether any accessibility accommodations will be provided. The announcement did not list a contact phone number; Smith made the details on-air during the Speedway Sports Network broadcast.
Separately, the broadcast also included a community notice from the Speedway Lions Club: the club meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Speedway Municipal Center; more information is available by email at speedwaylions@gmail.com, the announcer said.
The event is presented as a town outreach opportunity for families and residents to meet first responders, learn about town services, and engage with local organizations.
