Board approves executive dashboard rollout; baseline data to be shared ahead of Sept. 23 presentation

The Lakeville Area School Board on Aug. 26 approved a plan to adopt an executive "dashboard" of district metrics and asked district staff to provide baseline data in advance of a Sept. 23 presentation.

Director Thomas Thompson pushed for the board to receive baseline metrics by Sept. 9 so members could react quickly; Superintendent Bauman and other directors cautioned against overloading staff in the days right before school begins. After amendment and discussion the board agreed the district would provide baseline metrics ahead of time and deliver a formal presentation and discussion at the Sept. 23 meeting.

Board members debated the dashboard—s content and purpose. Supporters said a concise set of 15—25 core indicators across academics, operations, human resources and student engagement would give the board a quick, regularly updated snapshot of district health. Thompson said the dashboard should be the basis for prioritizing board and district initiatives: the board would set targets after seeing baselines, and the superintendent and staff would propose actions and resource implications to reach them.

Concerns raised included staff time to assemble the display before school starts and the need to include context for academic metrics; Director Baker argued that staff should not be overburdened the week before opening day. Directors agreed the dashboard metrics should be explicitly aligned to the district—s strategic goals and that the first presentation should include baseline numbers so the board could identify priorities.
