The Lakeville Area School Board met in closed session Aug. 26 under Minnesota Statute section 13D.05, subdivision 3(b) to discuss pending litigation, and later voted in open session to approve a settlement tied to the case the board referenced on the record.
At the meeting the board stated the closed session topic was litigation involving the district (recorded as "Palmer B v. ISD 194, court file number 19HA-CV-25-1460"). After the closed session, Director Amber Cameron moved to approve the settlement; Director Paul Carbone seconded the motion.
Director Kim Baker said she was unable to attend the closed session and announced she would recuse herself from the vote. Another director said they would also recuse for similar reasons, and Director Thompson also stated he would recuse. The motion proceeded and the board chair called for the vote; the chair then said the settlement was approved.
For the public record, the chair said the settlement payment will be covered entirely by the district—s insurance proceeds and will not require an out-of-pocket payment from the district.
Ending: The board moved on to other business after approving the settlement and noting the funding source was insurance.
