Alice ISD hires Samira Massey as Newton Elementary principal; retirements and resignations reported

The Alice Independent School District Board of Trustees on Aug. 29 approved the superintendent's recommendation to hire Samira Massey as principal of Newton Elementary, following a closed executive session on personnel matters.

The motion to hire Massey was made and seconded after the board reconvened in open session; the board voted by voice and the motion passed. Trustees also received informational updates on retirements and resignations and were briefed about ongoing personnel investigations; no board action on retirements or investigations was taken at the meeting.

The board entered executive session under the sections of the Texas Government Code cited on the agenda for personnel matters and legal consultation. After returning to open session, trustees took the single personnel action to approve the hire as presented in closed session.
