Coffee County to accept $350,000 21st Century grant for after-school program at Eastside Elementary

Coffee County Schools announced Aug. 28 that the district has been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant that staff said will provide $350,000 this year to operate an after-school program at Eastside Elementary School.
District staff said the program will serve students from Eastside, Westgreen, Satilla, Westside and Coffee Mill elementary schools. Officials asked the board to place acceptance of the grant revenue on the consent agenda for a future board meeting.
Staff described the award as a five‑year grant. District staff said the grant will fund programming at Eastside and thanked the staff who submitted the application. Board members asked about the application and enrollment process; staff said program managers will use a screening process to identify eligible students and work through normal enrollment procedures.
On timing, staff said the state money has arrived and a site administrator (SAC) has been identified; start-up for the current school year is likely to begin in October pending the board's formal approval and program logistics.
At the work session, board members voted to place the acceptance of the grant revenue on the consent agenda for the next meeting so the district can begin program start-up and parent outreach.
