School board approves instructional materials, student conduct code and multiple grants; change order for Osceola gym approved
Summary
At its Aug. 26 meeting the Marion County School Board approved instructional materials for health and HOPE classes, adopted the 2025–26 code of student conduct, authorized IDEA grant applications and a physical-therapy contract, and approved a change order to restore a bus canopy at Osceola Middle School.
The Marion County School Board voted on multiple agenda items during its Aug. 26 meeting in Ocala, approving instructional materials for health and physical education, adopting the 2025–26 code of student conduct, accepting federal IDEA grant applications and a contractor for physical therapy services, and approving a change order for the Osceola Middle School gym project.
All routine instructional-materials items — adoption of grade 6 health; grade 7 health; grade 8 health; and the 9–12 HOPE (physical education) materials — passed unanimously, 5–0. The board then adopted the district’s 2025–26 code of student conduct, also by a 5–0 vote after limited board discussion about dress-code language at individual schools.
The board approved federal grant applications under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): a K–12 entitlement application in the amount of $15,000,000 (including roll-forward funds from prior years), a preschool entitlement application of $463,000, and an independent-contractor agreement for physical therapy with Chrysalis Physical Therapy LLC for $95,000. Each of those motions passed 5–0.
The board also approved a change order (amendment) for the Osceola Middle School new gymnasium project. The change order will fund the original project’s bus canopy using the project contingency and assessed liquidated damages; that motion passed 4–1 (one recusal).
