York City — The Historical Architectural Review Board approved construction of a pole barn behind the property at 38 North Broad Street on Aug. 28, allowing the owner to choose between a single-slope shed roof and a double-slope gable roof.
The applicant described the structure as a backyard pole barn to extend approximately 3 feet into the existing yard to allow vehicle access. The applicant confirmed an existing small play-shed would be removed.
Board members noted the structure is located in a typical alley and that visibility from the primary street would be limited. One member observed the construction drawings showed differing roof presentations on two sides and suggested the single-slope shed roof would be the simplest solution; the owner indicated the building would be a single-slope shed roof and that the discrepancy was a drafting error.
A motion to approve the application as submitted, with the option for a double-slope gable roof in lieu of the single-slope shed if the owner preferred, passed after a second.
The board recorded no additional design conditions beyond the approved plan adjustments and did not require a formal return for minor roof-style changes, provided the owner notifies staff and the change remains consistent with the approved materials and location.
