Clatsop County proclaims September 2025 National Preparedness Month; launches Everbridge alert campaign

Clatsop County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution on Aug. 27 proclaiming September 2025 as National Preparedness Month and heard a presentation on the county’s alerting campaign to boost registration and data accuracy in its Everbridge-based notification system.
Jen Munson, Clatsop County emergency management community engagement coordinator, and Sarah Bridal, technical account manager for Everbridge assigned to Oregon Alert, described a public-awareness campaign that urges residents to sign up for or update “Clasip Alert” accounts and to register up to five addresses to receive location-targeted emergency notifications.
Munson said the county’s recent July tsunami advisory exposed gaps in contact information stored in the alert system; many residents expected alerts but did not receive them because phone numbers or email addresses were outdated. “That information does need to be updated regularly,” she said, adding that the county will encourage residents to check account details every six months.
Bridal, who supports the statewide Oregon Alert implementation through Everbridge, described features available to users including hosted opt-in portals, anonymous ZIP-code subscriptions, IPAWS (federal) alert delivery and multi-language message translation. She said other Oregon counties have used annual outreach campaigns and countywide test alerts to increase registrations and that Clatsop County’s campaign will culminate in an October 16 countywide test during the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill.
The board moved to adopt the proclamation and authorized the chair to sign. The resolution urges residents to sign up at the county portal, register addresses for targeted alerts, update contact information and, where appropriate, record access or functional needs to inform emergency planning.
The county will use social media, public events (including the Seaside Farmers Market and back-to-school events) and a county web portal with a comment map and survey to collect outreach responses. Staff said the project website already contains a survey and a comment map and that outreach events and flyers are planned through September and early October.
