Albany County authorizes agreement for eConnect juvenile suicide risk screening

Albany County approved an agreement with Columbia University, Chestnut Health Systems and the New York State Office of Mental Health to use the eConnect suicide risk assessment instrument for juvenile screening.
Director William Connors described the partnership and said the county is required under New York State Executive Law to provide youth suicide screening. He said Columbia provides the eConnect instrument, which asks a series of questions and produces a risk level; Chestnut Health Systems will collect de-identified raw data and transmit it to Columbia, which in turn will provide quality reports to the New York State Department of Health.
Connors said the system transmits only de-identified raw data (no personal data) to Chestnut and Columbia for reporting. Following the presentation the Legislature moved, seconded and approved the agreement by voice vote.
