During the Aug. 1, 2025 meeting the San Clemente zoning administrator directed staff to add the Planning Division’s tentative future agenda to the Zoning Administrator agenda under new business going forward. The direction cites San Clemente Municipal Code section 17.12.060(f)(2), which allows the zoning administrator to refer certain matters to the planning commission when significant public concern is anticipated.
The zoning administrator explained the change is intended to allow the zoning administrator to review tentative items in advance and determine whether an item should remain on the zoning administrator agenda or be placed directly on the planning commission agenda. The stated goal is to reduce delay, cost and duplication for applicants and the public by avoiding cases being heard first at the zoning administrator level and then being referred later to the planning commission.
