District rebalances budget after AVID funding moves from Title IV to Title II; no new general-fund dollars required

During a budget discussion, a staff presenter described an overall reduction “about $280,000” and said the district was matching services the district normally funds to fit the new budget. A speaker identified on the record as Bakke said: “we're able to expand it ... there's not gonna be any additional dollars within the general fund,” and added that a major factor was that AVID had moved from a new initiative to an established program, making some costs allowable under Title II.
Bakke explained the district now charges part of an AVID coordinator's salary and benefits to Title II because the coordinator provides ongoing professional development; when AVID was a beginning initiative, the costs had been charged to Title IV. Board members asked whether the district anticipated the position would not be fundable under Title IV when the role moved from coordinator to director; the presenter responded that the funding decision and reclassification were known and helped balance the budget.
Board members asked no further questions and the item was presented as an update. No formal action was taken.
