Sedgwick County firefighter outlines Station 36’s training role and coverage area

Firefighter Oscar Morales of Sedgwick County told attendees that Station 36 serves the Oak Lawn community and trains probationary firefighters while responding to calls across rural, suburban and industrial areas.
Morales said, “We protect and serve the historical Oak Lawn community.” He described Station 36 as a designated training station that works with nearby departments and facilities to support new firefighters in their first year after academy graduation.
The station’s responsibilities include emergency response near a local aerospace facility Morales identified as Spirit, and cross-jurisdictional operations with Derby Fire, Wichita Fire, McConnell Air Force Base and Station 34. Morales said the station handles a “variety of areas” that range from rural to industrial.
Morales also noted that Station 36 is slated to host a future on-site training ground. “One last thing that makes us unique is that we are actually the home to our future training grounds,” he said, adding that he is “really looking forward to” that development.
