Reno County awards sealed bid for EMS Station 2 remodel; base bid $570,000

Reno County commissioners voted to accept a sealed bid to remodel EMS Station 2 during their Aug. 27 meeting after county facilities staff presented bid results.
"During that time, I had answered several questions from 4 different contracting companies...all 4 prices were fairly close," said Kyle Stewart, Reno County director of facilities, describing a base bid of $570,000 and a hard cap of $600,000 for the project. Stewart said the extra $30,000 would cover alternates and contingencies and that staff will continue value-engineering the project to remove nonessential items. "This is not a build Taj Mahal of buildings," he said; the goal is a durable facility to serve EMS for decades.
Commissioner discussion noted the participation of local contractors among the bidders and expressed a preference to keep work in-county when feasible. The board moved and seconded a motion to accept the sealed bid from MBC Construction; a roll-call vote recorded Commissioners Parks, Vincent, Winger and Hurst voting yes and the motion passed.
Ending: Staff will prepare contract documents and proceed with construction oversight; Stewart said staff will continue value engineering and act as the county's on-site representative.
