Firefighter says Station 37 houses county training academy, mobile air unit in Bel Air

Firefighter Iverson told a Sedgwick County meeting that Station 37 in Bel Air houses the county's training academy and a mobile air unit used for house-fire responses and training.

Iverson said the station trains new firefighters and provides countywide support that includes replenishing cascade systems used for firefighter rehabilitation and medical attention on-scene.

"My name is Firefighter Iverson. I'm stationed here at Station 37, and we cover the city of Bel Air," Iverson said. "What makes Station 37 special to me is that this is where the academy is held. I'm a part of 1 of the 23 classes in total along with 121 recruits that have graduated and moved on to the floor."

Iverson described the station's equipment and countywide role: "We have mobile air 37 here. We use it when we respond to calls with house fires. For rehab, giving medical attention to firefighters, we can take our mobile air units to every station in the county and fill their cascade system. We also use mobile air for external training opportunities."

The firefighter also noted local outreach: Station 37 dates to 1973 and sits near a park, which Iverson said draws children and families to visit the house. Iverson listed vehicles and units associated with the station, including Engine 37 and Squad 37.
